Day 16 Charming Maplewood Church, then Itasca State Campground-Headwaters to the Mississippi

 Walk across the Mississippi
We went 10-12 miles along a dirt road to the Maplewood Church.  Special music 3 out of 4 Sundays as they share a Pastor.  The small congregation 15-20 host up to 100 people every Sunday from Easter to Thanksgiving(closed in winter). the music trio "Trinity" Mike, Darlis and Larry were wonderful. Larry played a concertina (small accordion) he bought from Willie the Polka King.  Whenever I hear polka music again I will always remembe this little church with the strains woven through the worship of old Gospel music.  I t was delightful and I expected to see Garrison Keillor walk through the door any moment.  The small congregation hustled everyone downstairs for a lovely lunch with gracious and excellent efficiency. There was even a lady there at the coffee to stir your cream/sugar and send you on to the tables.   Read sraight from the Word on the life of John the Baptist.
